I painted this a couple of years ago. My father was finally going to teach me how to sail. Unfortunately, we ran into some really bad northern Norwegian weather. Something was wrong with the sails, and at one point it was impossible to roll them in. As the wind kept rising, we couldn’t sail anymore , we just steered parallel to the wind to avoid capsizing. Eventually, we had to call for rescue.

I still don’t know how to sail , probably never will. But I painted this right after, and even though it wasn’t exactly a pleasant trip, I’ve grown really fond of this painting. I have the original painting, which is huge, in my living room today, and I am pleased to be able to offer it as prints .
